The Yantai Anyuan Sea Cucumber Industry Research Institute was established with a donation from Shandong Anyuan Seed Industry Technology Co., Ltd. It was founded on December 25, 2021, with a registered capital of 500,000 yuan and is headed by legal representative Zou Ange. The Institute primarily collaborates with various social organizations such as the China Fisheries Association and the Yantai Sea Cucumber Industry Federation, as well as experts and professors from research institutions including the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences; the Yellow Sea Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences; Yantai University; Ludong University; and Dalian Ocean University. Firmly focused on the direction of the sea cucumber industry, the Institute adapts its strategies to local conditions and closely cooperates with government departments in major sea cucumber-producing regions such as Liaoning, Shandong, Fujian, and Hebei, promoting and applying new varieties of Apostichopus japonicus. The Institute aims to become a leading domestic and world-class innovative research institution, significantly enhancing the technological R&D capabilities for Apostichopus japonicus, serving the industry, anticipating future trends in the aquatic seed industry, providing high-quality germplasm and technical support for the green development of the sea cucumber aquaculture industry, and making greater contributions to the sea cucumber sector.
The primary tasks are to promote scientific and technological innovation, drive industrial advancement, lead industry development, and foster talent cultivation. First, we will carry out scientific and technological innovation, with a particular focus on the utilization of sea cucumber germplasm resources, the development of superior new varieties, and healthy aquaculture engineering, actively conducting research to address cutting-edge and critical scientific and technological challenges in the development of the sea cucumber industry. Second, we will conduct research and collaborative problem-solving efforts to advance the industry and tackle practical issues such as diseases and immune prevention and control in industrial development. Third, we will leverage the leading role of key enterprises in the sea cucumber industry to serve as models and drivers of industry development, providing support to the sector and guiding its overall growth. Fourth, we will attract outstanding talents, with a special emphasis on cultivating local talent, thereby building a team of professionals who are technically proficient, resilient, hardworking, and committed to dedicating their expertise and energy to the development of the sea cucumber industry.
To support the development of the sea cucumber industry, the research institute has established five research divisions: the Seed Industry Research Office, the Biosecurity and Food Quality & Safety Research Office, the Aquaculture Model and Technology Research Office, the Advanced Processing and Resource Utilization Research Office, and the Industrial Economics and Strategy Research Office. Additionally, an expert committee composed of nationally renowned aquatic science specialists has been set up to provide technical support.
The Yantai Anyuan Sea Cucumber Industry Research Institute will focus on the development of the entire sea cucumber industry chain, bringing together top-tier, specialized sea cucumber research teams from across the country to conduct R&D and innovation in areas such as superior sea cucumber varieties, advanced cultivation techniques, and sophisticated deep-processing technologies. The institute will accelerate the commercialization of research findings and their industrial application, thereby making a positive contribution to the ecological, green, and healthy development of China’s sea cucumber industry.
